The one occasion when I really lost my way was during a solo trip to Hội An a couple of years ago, back in 2024. To tell you a little bit about where I was, it happened in Hoi An, an ancient town in central Vietnam. What happened was I decided to

and it’s getting darker. My heart was racing a bit, I was sweating from the humidity, and I started like ending up miles away or missing my bus back to Da Nang the next morning.

How I found my way in the end was a

: I stopped at a small family-run restaurant, ordered an iced tea to calm down, and asked the owner who spoke slow, clear Vietnamese tothe river. She didn’t just tell me; she walked me out to the street, , explained where I needed to go, and even made sure the driver understood. From there, it was a quick five-minute ride back to the bright lights of the old town, where everything suddenly looked familiar again. I tipped the driver extra and thanked the auntie profusely when I saw her the next day. Looking back, it taught me to trust people more than maps when I’m in unfamiliar places . What could’ve been a stressful evening turned into one of my favorite travel memories, you know, that feeling of being a bit helpless but then rescued by kindness. I still smile thinking about how a simple glass of iced tea and a helpful local .
