Ví dụ: What is notable from the statistics is that except for video recorders, almost all items saw upward trends in ownership.

* Mệnh đề danh từ (noun clause): đóng vai trò như một danh từ trong câu. Mệnh đề này thường bắt đầu bằng các từ nối như What / Who / How / Why / Whether / If, etc. và có thể giữ vai trò làm chủ ngữ, tân ngữ hoặc bổ ngữ cho các thành phần khác trong câu.

Ví dụ: Washing machines were the most widely owned electronic item.

Ví dụ: The percentage of households owning video recorders was 75%, surpassing the figures for computers and dishwashers by 25% and 30% in that order.

=> Câu có mệnh đề quan hệ cđầy đủ sẽ là: The percentage of households that owned video recorders was 75%, which surpassed the figures for computers and dishwashers by 25% and 30% in that order.

- Meanwhile: dùng để chỉ sự tương phản hoặc hành động đồng thời giữa hai sự kiện.

Ví dụ: The percentage of households owning video recorders was 75%, [...]. Meanwhile, cell phones were found in just 20% of homes, while digital cameras were possessed by a mere 2%.

- Similarly: chỉ ra sự tương đồng hoặc giống nhau giữa hai ý. Ví dụ: The most noticeable growth was observed in mobile phone ownership [...]. Similarly, the prevalence of computers, dishwashers , and digital cameras rose, although less dramatically, to 78%, 55%, and 40%, correspondingly.

- In contrast: chỉ ra sự đối lập giữa hai ý tưởng.

Ví dụ: The prevalence of computers, dishwashers , and digital cameras rose, [...]. In contrast, video recorder was the only category that experienced a downward trend, dropping moderately by 15% to 60%.
