Germany topped the list of preferred destinations, attracting a total of 1,198,000 immigrants. Of these, nearly half were Italian (556,000), followed by Polish immigrants (426,000), with smaller numbers from Spain (112,000) and Britain (104,000). Britain, the second most popular destination, had a total of 1,037,000 immigrants. Among immigrants, Polish nationals made up the largest group in Britain, with 550,000 people, almost double the figure for Germany and that of Italy. The Italian and Spanish communities were smaller, at 119,000 and 71,000, respectively.

In Spain, a total of 861,000 immigrants settled in the country. British nationals formed the largest group (391,000), followed by Germans (196,000), Italians (188,000), and Polish immigrants (86,000). Italy had 196,000 immigrants in total, with Polish nationals again making up the largest portion at 106,000, the number of Italian immigrants by 25,000. Germans living in this country accounted for 42,000 immigrants, double the number of Spaniards (19,000). Meanwhile, Poland had the smallest immigrant population, with only 6,000 immigrants in total. Of these, the majority were Germans (4,400), followed by 760 British, 670 Italians, and just 170 Spaniards.
