You will hear the chair of a public meeting describing proposed traffic changes in Granford.
First, you have some time to look at questions 11 to 13.
Now listen carefully and answer questions 11 to 13.
I'm Phil Sutton, and I'll outline the new traffic and parking proposals before we take questions.
The hospital construction brought a temporary rise in heavy vehicles, but the broader issue has lasted longer.
The total volume of traffic through Granford has grown steadily.
Fortunately, accident figures have not gone up, and the mix of vehicles is much the same as before.
We also asked residents what troubled them most.
Some expected complaints about parents driving badly near the school, and a few people mentioned noise and fumes from lorries.
The strongest response, however, concerned cars left along the streets.
They block sight lines and make everyday journeys inconvenient.
The council can fund the signs, road markings, and other physical work.
The difficult part is making sure drivers follow the new rules.
We are still discussing enforcement with the police, though they support the overall plan.
Before you hear the rest of the talk, you have some time to look at questions 14 to 20.
Now listen and answer questions 14 to 20.
Let me take you around the map.
As you can see, High Street runs across the center with Station Road to the west and School Road on the eastern side.
There are already traffic signals where Station Road meets High Street, so we will add another set at the opposite end, at the junction of High Street and School Road.
A pedestrian crossing was considered directly outside the school.
However, that would have added to congestion at drop-off time, so it will instead be placed on High Street, immediately in front of the central supermarket.
At present, drivers cannot leave cars on High Street by the library.
In the future, however, that restriction will be removed, allowing parking along that short section.
But please keep in mind that parking at the School Road end will remain prohibited.
We will also put up a new No Parking sign on School Road opposite the school entrance.
This should keep the gateway clear.
The disabled bays outside the High Street supermarket are sometimes occupied by delivery vehicles, so two replacement spaces will be marked in the short side road leading towards the bank.
The bend on School Road just before the school is uncomfortably narrow for people walking, so to make it safer for pedestrians, the pavement there will be widened by about half a meter.
Finally, the supermarket on School Road will only be allowed to receive lorries before 8 in the morning, while deliveries to the High Street supermarket will continue as usual.
Okay, so that's about it.
That is the end of Part 2.
You now have half a minute to check your answers.
