NARRATOR:
You will hear a man asking a woman for advice about moving to Banford City.
NARRATOR:
First, you have some time to look at questions 1 to 5.
NARRATOR:
Now listen carefully and answer questions 1 to 5.
LINDA:
Hello, Linda speaking.
MATT:
Hi Linda, my name is Matt Brooks.
MATT:
Alex White passed on your number and said you might be able to advise me about relocating to Banford.
LINDA:
Yes, Alex told me you might call.
LINDA:
What would you like to know?
MATT:
To begin with, I am trying to decide which part of the city to live in.
LINDA:
It is a pleasant suburb.
LINDA:
The prices are not too high and there is a good park nearby.
MATT:
That sounds promising.
MATT:
Roughly what would a two-bedroom flat cost there each month?
LINDA:
You should find a decent place for about £850 a month.
LINDA:
That is the usual figure.
LINDA:
I would not pay anything above £900 and remember that bills are separate.
MATT:
That seems reasonable.
MATT:
How easy is it to get around from Dalton?
LINDA:
I am fortunate because my office is in the center so I do not need public transport.
MATT:
I would love to do that.
MATT:
Is cycling in the city safe?
LINDA:
Yes, it is fine and it keeps me fit.
LINDA:
Driving into the center is much worse because parking is extremely limited.
LINDA:
The roads are busy at rush hour too.
MATT:
I will work at home, although I need to travel to London once or twice a week.
LINDA:
Then you will be fine.
LINDA:
A fast train leaves for London every 30 minutes and the journey takes only about 45 minutes.
LINDA:
The weekday service is quite reliable and trains continue until late.
LINDA:
Weekends are the problem.
LINDA:
Engineering work often means taking a bus to Hadham and catching the train from there, which adds a lot of time.
LINDA:
Apart from that, I really enjoy living in Banford.
NARRATOR:
Before you hear the rest of the conversation, you have some time to look at questions 6 to 10.
NARRATOR:
Now listen and answer questions 6 to 10.
LINDA:
The center has several good restaurants and a new cinema opened only a couple of months ago.
LINDA:
There is also an arts center.
MATT:
It sounds as though Banford has nearly everything.
LINDA:
The schools are good and the hospital has an excellent national reputation.
LINDA:
Everyone I know who has used it speaks highly of the care.
LINDA:
I can also give you the details of my dentist on Bridge Street.
LINDA:
I have gone there for years without any trouble.
MATT:
That would be useful, thanks.
LINDA:
I will look up the number and send it to you.
LINDA:
Will you be visiting Banford soon?
MATT:
Yes, my wife and I are coming next week to meet a few estate agents.
LINDA:
I can meet you and show you around if you would like.
MATT:
We would really appreciate it.
LINDA:
Tuesday or Thursday would suit me, as long as it is after 5.30. Thursday would be better.
MATT:
On Tuesday I have to be home before 6.
LINDA:
Tell me which train you are taking and I will wait in the cafe opposite the station.
LINDA:
It is beside the museum, so it is easy to find.
MATT:
I will text you next week.
MATT:
Thanks for all your help.
LINDA:
See you next week.
NARRATOR:
That is the end of Part 1.
