NARRATOR:
You will hear Leon and Shannon discussing places to buy food near Shannon's new flat.
NARRATOR:
First, you have some time to look at questions one to six.
NARRATOR:
Now listen carefully and answer questions one to six.
LEON:
Hi Shannon, how are you getting on in the new flat?
SHANNON:
Very well, thanks.
LEON:
It looks as though you're heading out to do some shopping.
SHANNON:
Two of my cousins are staying for a few days, so I need to cook for them.
LEON:
You'll find several good food shops in Kite Place, the district beside the harbor.
SHANNON:
I'll locate it on my map.
LEON:
What kind of food are you looking for?
SHANNON:
Neither cousin eats meat, although they're both keen on fish.
LEON:
In that case, the fish market there is excellent.
SHANNON:
Where exactly is it?
LEON:
Go to the far end of Kite Place, cross the bridge, and you'll see it on the right.
SHANNON:
Is it open throughout the day?
LEON:
It stays open until four, but some products sell out, so I wouldn't leave it until closing time.
SHANNON:
I definitely don't want to miss what I need.
LEON:
You'll be alright if you arrive by three thirty.
LEON:
It's only eleven now, so there's no rush.
LEON:
Will you need vegetables as well?
SHANNON:
Yes, and I'd rather not buy everything wrapped in plastic at the supermarket.
LEON:
There's a lovely organic shop nearby.
LEON:
Its name is a flower.
SHANNON:
That's a pleasant name.
LEON:
It has vegetables, and quite a few other things too.
SHANNON:
How do I find it?
LEON:
When you reach the market, look left for a large gray building.
LEON:
It was probably a warehouse once.
LEON:
There's a restaurant upstairs and two shops on the ground floor, one on either side of the entrance.
LEON:
Rose is the shop on the left.
SHANNON:
That sounds straightforward.
LEON:
And there's a large sign out on the pavement, so it's hard to miss.
SHANNON:
If I still need anything, I suppose I'll have to use the supermarket.
LEON:
You should find everything there.
LEON:
A minibus goes to it as well.
LEON:
It's purple, and its route number is two hundred eighty-nine.
SHANNON:
That's really useful.
NARRATOR:
Before you hear the rest of the conversation, you have some time to look at questions seven to ten.
NARRATOR:
Now listen and answer questions seven to ten.
LEON:
What are you planning to buy at the fish market?
LEON:
The salmon is usually good, and so is the shellfish.
SHANNON:
I'm thinking of making a curry, and I'll need roughly twelve prawns for it.
LEON:
They should have plenty.
LEON:
Have you ever eaten samphire?
LEON:
It's a kind of seaweed.
LEON:
You buy a handful and fry it in butter.
LEON:
It tastes wonderful.
SHANNON:
I may give that a try.
SHANNON:
How do you spell the name?
SHANNON:
I enjoy trying unfamiliar food.
SHANNON:
At the organic shop, I'll see which beans are available, and I'd like to pick up some fruit for dessert.
LEON:
What about a mango?
SHANNON:
They can be disappointing when they aren't ripe.
SHANNON:
I'd rather have a melon, and it will serve more people.
LEON:
The shopkeeper also stocks plenty of spices for curries, as well as ingredients such as coconut.
SHANNON:
I'll take a look.
SHANNON:
Bread isn't an obvious match for curry, but I like having some on the table anyway.
LEON:
The bakery makes all its own bread and offers several kinds.
LEON:
I usually choose the brown loaf.
SHANNON:
That sounds good.
LEON:
It sells more than bread, too.
SHANNON:
Do they have cakes?
SHANNON:
Chocolate cake is my favorite.
LEON:
Not chocolate cake, but there are lots of tarts.
LEON:
The strawberry ones are the best.
