NARRATOR:
You will hear a man conducting a transport survey with a woman named Sadie.
NARRATOR:
First, you have some time to look at questions one to five.
NARRATOR:
Now listen carefully and answer questions one to five.
MAN:
Hello, could I ask you a few questions?
MAN:
We're carrying out a survey about transport.
MAN:
To begin with, what's your name?
MAN:
Could you also give me your year of birth?
MAN:
I don't need the full date.
SADIE:
I was born in 1991.
SADIE:
It's D-W-3-0-7-Y-Z.
MAN:
Is that part of Wells?
SADIE:
No, I live in Harburn, actually.
SADIE:
Wells is quite close, though.
MAN:
I know the area well.
MAN:
My grandmother used to live there when I was young.
SADIE:
It's a lovely place.
MAN:
Now, thinking about the journey you made today, did you come by public transport?
SADIE:
Yes, I took the bus.
MAN:
And today is the 24th of April, correct?
SADIE:
I thought it was the 25th.
SADIE:
Oh, no, you're right.
MAN:
What brought you into town?
MAN:
I notice you've been shopping.
SADIE:
I bought a few things, yes.
SADIE:
But I mainly came for an appointment with the dentist.
MAN:
Not the nicest reason for a trip.
MAN:
I hope there wasn't a problem.
SADIE:
Just a routine checkup.
MAN:
Do you usually take the bus when you come into the city center?
SADIE:
I gave up driving in because spaces are hard to find and the parking is so expensive.
SADIE:
The bus is more convenient as well.
SADIE:
And the journey is only around half an hour.
MAN:
That's fairly quick.
MAN:
Where did you board it today?
SADIE:
At the stop on Klaxby Street.
MAN:
Let me check the spelling.
SADIE:
Yes, that's correct.
NARRATOR:
Before you hear the rest of the interview, you have some time to look at questions 6 to 10.
NARRATOR:
Now listen carefully and answer questions 6 to 10.
MAN:
Overall, are you happy with the service or is there anything you complain about?
SADIE:
It's quick and convenient when it keeps to the timetable, but today it was late.
SADIE:
It was only 10 minutes, though it was still irritating.
MAN:
I can understand that.
MAN:
How do you find the timetable generally?
SADIE:
I mostly travel during the day, so it's usually fine.
SADIE:
But whenever I've stayed in town in the evening, perhaps for a meal or a film, I've had to wait ages because buses are much less frequent.
MAN:
I'd like to ask about traveling by car now.
SADIE:
I own one, but I hardly use it.
SADIE:
I mainly drive to the supermarket.
SADIE:
My husband takes it to the golf club at weekends, but that's really all.
SADIE:
I don't have a bicycle at present.
MAN:
Have you ever used one of the higher bikes in the city?
SADIE:
I don't enjoy cycling in the center because of the pollution.
SADIE:
I would like to buy a bike, though.
SADIE:
It would be useful for commuting.
MAN:
What's stopping you from getting one?
SADIE:
I live in a second floor flat and there's no storage.
SADIE:
We'd have to keep it in the corridor outside.
NARRATOR:
That is the end of part one.
NARRATOR:
You now have one minute to check your answers to part one.
