NARRATOR:
You will hear a woman inquiring about work as a cycle tour leader.
NARRATOR:
First, you have some time to look at questions one to six.
NARRATOR:
Now listen carefully and answer questions one to six.
BOB:
Hello, Pembroke Cycling Holidays, Bob speaking.
MARGARET:
Hello, I noticed your advertisement for cycle trip leaders.
MARGARET:
Am I speaking to the person who deals with applications?
BOB:
Could you tell me your name?
MARGARET:
Margaret Smith.
BOB:
Are you hoping to find permanent work, Margaret?
MARGARET:
No, something temporary.
MARGARET:
I've got a permanent post beginning in a few months, so I'd like another job until then.
BOB:
What sort of work are you in?
MARGARET:
It may sound rather odd.
MARGARET:
I used to practice law, but I changed career completely.
MARGARET:
I've just completed my training, and I'll soon be working as a doctor.
BOB:
Have you ever been in charge of cycling tours?
MARGARET:
I've led several cycle trips in Africa.
MARGARET:
I was due to lead one in India next month, but that was cancelled.
MARGARET:
So your advertisement came at the right time.
BOB:
We generally send two or three leaders, depending on the group size.
BOB:
Some trips are aimed at highly experienced cyclists.
BOB:
However, a tour in Spain has attracted so much interest that we need one more leader.
BOB:
It's a cycling holiday for families.
BOB:
Would you be interested?
MARGARET:
I like working with children.
MARGARET:
And I'd prefer to gain more experience before taking on a really demanding trip.
BOB:
There'll be several teenagers on that holiday.
BOB:
Have you worked with people of that age?
MARGARET:
At present, I volunteer at a youth club, helping members improve their cycling.
MARGARET:
Before that, I helped at a cycling club where I taught beginners.
BOB:
The trip I've described lasts only two weeks, though there may be other tours for you to lead afterwards.
BOB:
Would that suit your plans?
MARGARET:
I'm available for five months.
MARGARET:
My new job starts on the 2nd of October, so I can work from the 1st of May until near the end of September.
BOB:
Is there anything we should know about your diet?
BOB:
We often have participants who don't eat meat or who have food allergies, so we take care with that.
MARGARET:
I am allergic to cheese.
MARGARET:
Would that cause any difficulty?
BOB:
If we know beforehand, we can make suitable arrangements.
MARGARET:
That's reassuring.
NARRATOR:
Before you hear the rest of the conversation, you have some time to look at questions 7 to 10.
NARRATOR:
Now listen and answer questions 7 to 10.
MARGARET:
This sounds very interesting.
MARGARET:
Shall I complete an application form?
BOB:
What address should I send it to?
MARGARET:
Please post it to 27 Arbuthnot Place, Dumfries.
MARGARET:
That's A-R-B-U-T-H-N-O-T.
BOB:
Is that P for Papa or B for Bravo?
BOB:
If you send the completed form back by this Friday, we can interview you next Tuesday at half-past two.
MARGARET:
Yes, that's fine.
MARGARET:
You are quite a distance from me, so I'll drive over on Monday.
MARGARET:
Is there anything I should take to the interview?
BOB:
We'll already have the form.
BOB:
Please bring any relevant certificates you hold, in cycling, first aid or similar areas.
BOB:
We'd also like to hear about your experience as a tour guide.
BOB:
Could you prepare a 10-minute presentation on that?
BOB:
There is no need for slides or other equipment.
BOB:
A few notes will be enough.
MARGARET:
I'll begin planning it straight away.
BOB:
We look forward to receiving your form and we'll contact you to confirm the interview.
MARGARET:
Thank you very much.
BOB:
Thank you, Margaret.
