You will hear a man asking the customer services manager of a hotel about facilities for a conference.
NARRATOR:
You will hear a man asking the customer services manager of a hotel about facilities for a conference.
NARRATOR:
First, you have some time to look at questions one to five.
NARRATOR:
Now listen carefully and answer questions one to five.
ANGELA:
Good morning, Flanders Conference Hotel.
MAN:
I'm calling to inquire about the hotel's conference facilities.
MAN:
Are you the right person to speak to?
ANGELA:
Yes, I'm the customer services manager.
ANGELA:
My name's Angela.
MAN:
I'm with Barrett and Stansons.
MAN:
We're a medical firm based in Melbourne.
MAN:
We're arranging a two-day conference in Sydney for some of our clients and we expect roughly 50 to 60 delegates.
ANGELA:
Do you have any dates in mind?
MAN:
We were thinking of early next year, perhaps the final weekend in January.
MAN:
It does need to be held at a weekend.
ANGELA:
The conference area is taken for the weekend starting on January the 28th.
ANGELA:
The first weekend in February is still free though.
MAN:
Would January the 21st work?
ANGELA:
Sorry, that weekend has already been reserved as well.
MAN:
All right, then we'll choose the February weekend.
ANGELA:
That will be the weekend beginning February the 4th.
MAN:
Could you describe the conference facilities you offer?
ANGELA:
Talks and presentations can be held in the Tesla room.
MAN:
Could you repeat the name?
ANGELA:
The room can seat as many as a hundred people and has a projector and the usual presentation equipment.
MAN:
Is there a microphone?
ANGELA:
One will be prepared for the speaker and there's another available for audience questions if you need it.
MAN:
We'll also want a fairly large open space where people can sit with coffee.
MAN:
We're planning an exhibition of our products and services in the same area.
ANGELA:
That won't be a problem.
ANGELA:
The central atrium can accommodate both and you may come in before the conference to set up the displays.
MAN:
I assume there's Wi-Fi as well.
ANGELA:
Yes, it's free and can be used everywhere in the hotel.
ANGELA:
Would you like the hotel to arrange a buffet lunch too?
ANGELA:
We offer a two-course meal with several choices.
MAN:
How much would that cost?
ANGELA:
I can email our standard menu which is priced at $45 a person.
ANGELA:
There's also a special menu that costs $25 more.
MAN:
The standard one should be sufficient but please send me a copy of the menu.
NARRATOR:
Before you hear the rest of the conversation, you have some time to look at questions 6 to 10.
NARRATOR:
Now listen and answer questions 6 to 10.
MAN:
We'll also require rooms on the Saturday night for some delegates.
MAN:
I can't confirm the number yet but it will probably be around 25.
MAN:
What is the room rate?
ANGELA:
Conference guests receive a 25% discount so their rooms will be $135.
ANGELA:
The usual price for a standard room is $180.
MAN:
Does the reduced rate include breakfast?
ANGELA:
Guests may also use the rest of the hotel's facilities.
ANGELA:
There's a spa offering treatments such as massages and facials and a pool on the roof for hotel residents.
MAN:
How easy is it to reach the hotel?
MAN:
You're in the city center, aren't you?
ANGELA:
The airport is about 12 kilometers away and hotel guests can take our complimentary shuttle.
ANGELA:
The central railway station is also only a 10-minute walk.
MAN:
I'm not very familiar with Sydney, so could you explain exactly where the hotel is?
ANGELA:
It's in the city center on Wilby Street, which is a small road quite close to the sea.
ANGELA:
If delegates want to go out on Saturday evening, there are plenty of restaurants nearby.
ANGELA:
They can continue to one of the many clubs in the district afterwards if they want a late night.
MAN:
If we decide to book, could you tell me how much that is?
