Woman:
Good afternoon, Lemon Grove School District.
Man:
Hi, I'm calling for information on school registration.
Man:
I think my son should attend one of the schools in your district.
Woman:
What grade will your son be entering?
Man:
He'll be starting school this year.
Woman:
One moment, please.
Woman:
I'll get the information for kindergarten registration.
Woman:
Can you give me your address?
Man:
Yes, it's 7418 Demerino Street.
Woman:
Yes, at that address, your child should attend Monterey Heights Elementary.
Man:
Can you spell that, please?
Woman:
Yes, it's M-O-N-T-E-R-E-Y Heights.
Man:
So how do I register him?
Woman:
We have registration at each school site Monday through Thursday from 9 to 1.
Woman:
Oh, no, sorry, 1.30.
Woman:
You'll need to pick up a kindergarten registration packet from the school beforehand, though.
Woman:
It has all the forms you'll need to fill out.
Man:
Can I pick up the packet anytime?
Woman:
The school office is usually open till 3.30 in the afternoons.
Man:
I can't really get there that early.
Woman:
Well, the school has late office hours until 4 on Thursdays, or I think you can pick up a packet in the school library any day before 5.
Man:
I'll stop by there someday this week, then, before 5.
Man:
Can you tell me what forms we'll need?
Man:
I'm sure you need his immunization records.
Woman:
Yes, those, and we also need a general health history signed by your child's doctor, a form filled out by the dentist, emergency contact information, and a residency verification form with proof of residence.
Woman:
Oh, and an original birth certificate.
Man:
Okay, that shouldn't be a problem.
Man:
Can I ask one more question?
Man:
I was wondering about before and after school care.
Man:
Do you provide transportation after school?
Woman:
No, unfortunately we don't.
Woman:
Parents or caregivers need to pick up the children.
Woman:
There is, however, an on-site licensed daycare for working parents who need after school care for their children.
Woman:
It's housed within the school grounds, and someone from the daycare will walk to the main school building to pick up your child each day.
Woman:
It's run by the city youth council and comes highly recommended.
Man:
Can I get information about that as well?
Woman:
Yes, flyers and contact information will be included with your packet.
Man:
Oh, and one more thing.
Man:
I saw a flyer recently for an introduction event for new students and parents.
Man:
An open house, I think it was called, but I can't remember the date.
Woman:
That must have been last year's flyer.
Woman:
We haven't put out information on this year's open house yet, but it'll probably be sometime in August.
Woman:
Ah, no, actually it will be in July this year, since schools start a little early this year.
Woman:
Once your child is registered, you'll get all that information in the mail, and it'll be on the school website as well.
Man:
I'm assuming that during the open house, we get to tour the school and meet our child's teacher?
Woman:
Yes, and you will set up a time for kindergarten entrance testing as well.
Man:
Wow, testing already.
Woman:
Well, we want to make sure children are properly placed and qualified for special services, if necessary.
Man:
Okay, I guess that makes sense.
Man:
Oh, and the first day of school?
Woman:
The first day will be August 19.
Woman:
We start in the middle of the week to help with the adjustment, and for kindergartners, the first three days are half days, from 8 to 12.30.
Man:
And then the next week, the regular schedule, 8 o'clock to 2.05 will be in force.
Woman:
Yes, and you can access the full school calendar of holidays and breaks on the school website.
Man:
Oh, yeah, I've seen that.
Man:
The website is very helpful.
Man:
Thank you so much for your time.
Woman:
You're welcome, sir.
