Concerts in university arts festival

Concert 1 Australian composer: Liza Lim

• before she began composing, she learnt both piano and 

• orchestras, performers and festivals worldwide have commissioned many of her works

• her compositions convey considerable  and draw on several cultural traditions
• her music is very expressive although it is also 
• the festival will present her seven-part , The Oresteia
• Lim described the sounds used in The Oresteia as  British composers: Ralph Vaughan Williams, Frederick Delius

Concert 2 British composers: Benjamin Britten, Judith Weir Australian composer: Ross Edwards

• the festival includes The Tower of Remoteness, which was inspired by nature

• The Tower of Remoteness was composed for piano and 

• his output includes pieces for children

• his music celebrates the cultural  of Australia

Concert 3 Australian composer: Carl Vine

• played the cornet before changing to the piano

• first studied  at university, then moved to music

• worked independently in Sydney as a pianist and composer

• gained recognition for creating music for 
• the festival programme contains his music for the 1996  British composers: Edward Elgar, Thomas Adès
